Dr. Stuart Bursten graduated from Stanford University with a B.S. in biology and an A.B. in psychology. He went on to earn his medical degree at Yale University School of Medicine graduating in 1980. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Boston City Hospital and continued his medical training at University of Washington, completing his residency there in 1983, and his Nephrology Fellowship in 1986. He was appointed assistant professor of medicine and nephrology, specializing in lipid biochemistry and hypertension, in 1986, and continued as a full-time faculty member through 1992. Dr. Bursten was one of the scientific founders of Cell Therapeutics, Inc., in 1992, and was a Research Director from 1992 through 1999. He remained a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington until he joined Napa Valley Nephrology and Internal Medicine in September, 2002. Dr. Bursten is married and has three daughters.
Dr. Bursten has specialized interest in immunology (renal transplantation), lipid biochemistry, and hypertension. He has privileges at Queen of the Valley Hospital, St. Helena Hospital and Sonoma Valley Hospital. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.
